JCDecaux Street Furniture Collection

2016-2019

As part of the Tzannes team, alongside Alec Tzannes, we were commissioned by JCDecaux to design two distinctive ranges of public infrastructure for use in Sydney and beyond. The work builds on the design language of the City of Sydney Public Domain Furniture, reflecting the city’s heritage, culture, and lifestyle.

Working closely with JCDecaux design teams in both Australia and France, we developed two families of elements, including a modular and flexible transport shelter system, a suite of versatile multi-use street kiosks, and automated public toilet units.

A key aspect of the design was responding to Sydney’s climate—providing effective weather protection while directing stormwater away from users and into street gutters without splashing. The system also offers adaptable elements that can be configured to a wide range of site conditions, while seamlessly integrating digital advertising displays that fund maintenance and cleaning.

One range adopts a minimal, low-profile rolled bronze plate approach, referencing the robust construction of Sydney’s industrial and harbour infrastructure. The other range, in polished stainless steel, was conceived to resonate with the design language of the City of Sydney Public Domain Furniture that we previously designed, extending this established family of forms.
